Fred Again.. Sofi Tukker, Phoebe Bridgers, Dehd

Whoa, life has been a little hectic I guess, totally forgot about the music blog! (sorry Sheri!) But okay, we’re back a year later, and I promise to update this more regularly. Let’s get right into it.

Fred Again.. - Lights Burn Dimmer

If anyone has plans to rob a bank in the near future, this is a perfect jam to bump in the getaway car. Kinda feels like it should get “bigger” in some way and it never does, but that synth line is so satisfying it doesn’t even matter.

Channel Tres - Gangsta

I know absolutely nothing about this dude other than that he’s from Compton and huge in LA, but when I stumbled on this track it had less than 2,000 plays on Spotify (up to 60k as of this writing now). Good luck listening to this and trying to sit still… def would have declared it the song of the summer if it was released a few months ago

Dehd - Flood

One of my favorite bands of the year. Saw them open for Jack White at the Salt Shed at some point and was so pleasantly surprised (what’s better than catching a great opener you’ve never heard?). They have two different lead singers — one man, one woman — so each song has a different flavor. One of those records I could listen to straight through. Added my other favorite on the playlist, “Light On” (also a great Maggie Rogers song)

Ben Kweller feat. Waxahatchee - Dollar Store

Ben Kweller tragically lost his 16 year old in a freak car accident in 2023. He channeled that grief into a studio album last year called “Cover the Mirrors.” In that context, this song crushes me. “I’ll be right back… panic attack” hits hard. Killer guitar riff I could listen to all day too.

Bros - Never Gonna Stop

I remember when The Sheepdogs were on the cover of Rolling Stone. They were great! Not sure what happened to them, but "Bros” is the new project from two of the dudes. I dig it. Some sick 70’s style funk / soul / rock.

Right Half - Sunrider

Awesome track from my boy Jake Rosenberg, whose album I helped produce last year. Jake is the man and super talented at just about every instrument. This song is a total earworm and makes me happy.

Long Beach Dub All Stars feat. Pepper - Pepper

Long overdue that someone covered this song. Love this version.

Fantastic Cat - Donnie Takes the Bus

I caught an article from The Village Voice with a headline pondering the question, “Is Fantastic Cat the Wu Tang Clan of Folk Rock?”… I mean good lord, not sure I’ve ever felt like someone designed clickbait specifically for me. So I took a listen, and the jury is still out… but there’s definitely something to these guys.

Phoebe Bridgers - I Can’t Wait

Wildly cool song. Some crazy vocal production layered into the beat. There’s a Jekyll and Hyde reference in there, which is perfect for when the song shifts from a pop song to an acoustic guitar / harmonica folk song, and then back to a pop song. What a ride. This is right up my alley.

Mr. Dinkles - Eat Chips and Talk Shit

Unreal song title / chorus, don’t even care about the music (but that’s good too)

Gorillaz feat. Tame Impala and Bootie Brown - New Gold

About time Gorillaz put out something worth listening to again (smart move bringing Tame Impala on board). This track bangs.

Sofi Tukker - Barthelona

Too much time has passed for me to put "Purple Hat” on this list b/c it’s old news by now, but I still listen to it on a regular basis. Since “Purple Hat” got released, anything Sofi Tukker puts out becomes appointment listening for me. This is as simple as it gets, but it’s money and who doesn’t like saying “Barthelona”?

Sofi Tukker feat. Kah-Lo - Woof

This one is even better. No idea what’s going on, but I love it.

Trey Anastasio - Miss You

This song always gets me. The solo “Live and Acoustic” album is a great one to throw on the record player.

Jon Bellion - Oblivious

Shoutout to my man Chris Haunss for putting me down with this one (I’m a few years late to the party apparently, but nbd). Monster chorus. And Jon Bellion is a Long Island guy, which makes it automatically better.

The Dare - Kick

Had to sneak another track by The Dare on here a year later. Wait for the disco keys to kick in a couple of minutes into the song. If I’m not dancing to this late night at some point in the near future — with Mr. Gac spinning it on the decks — I’m going to be disappointed. There’s another solid Wet Leg remix by The Dare (“mangetout”) on this playlist too.

Supermodel* - i used to live in england

Total weird one with LCD Soundsystem / The Rapture vibes… it doesn’t really go anywhere, but it’s dope. Fun fact: Sheri’s sister Leila used to live in England.

Petey USA - Lean Into Life

Speaking of LCD vibes! Love this guy. He’s from Michigan and he’s some sort of mashup of LCD with some sick late 90’s / early 00’s emo stuff going on too (loves that old scream-the-song-far-away-from-the-microphone move and layering it in under a lot of his tracks). I put another one of his songs on here too, “Save for the Horses”
